Seamless Ferritic Alloy Steel P22 Pipe

Chrome Moly Piping For Corrosion And Creep Resistance

Seamless ferritic alloy steel p22 pipe, compliant with astm a335, delivers superior corrosion and creep resistance, ideal for high-temperature boiler pipeline protection in power plants and petrochemical industries.

ASTM A335 P22 Pipe is a seamless ferritic alloy steel pipe developed for elevated temperature and pressure applications. This Chrome Moly pipe contains 1.90–2.60% chromium and 0.87–1.13% molybdenum, delivering excellent resistance to oxidation, corrosion, and thermal fatigue. It is widely used in boilers, pressure vessels, power generation systems, and heat exchangers.

The pipe is manufactured by hot-rolled or cold-drawn processes followed by controlled heat treatment. It is well-suited for bending, flanging, fusion welding, and requires preheating (approx. 200°C) and PWHT for optimal performance. Available in sizes from 1/2” to 24” (DN15–DN600), wall thickness from SCH 40 to SCH 160, and standard/custom lengths up to 12 meters.

Conforming to ASTM A335/ASME SA335 standards, each pipe undergoes rigorous testing including tensile strength, flattening, hardness, hydrostatic and nondestructive testing to ensure durability in demanding environments. Surface coatings like varnish, 3LPE, or FBE are available.

Compared to P11 or P5 grades, P22 pipes offer enhanced performance for prolonged service life under high thermal stress and pressure, especially in superheater tubes, reheater coils, and petrochemical process piping. They are also compatible with pipe fittings manufactured under ASTM A234 WP22.

P22 Seamless Alloy Steel Pipes are a reliable solution for high-efficiency industrial systems, helping reduce maintenance downtime and operational risks in aggressive thermal environments.

FAQ

ASTM A335 P22 is a grade of seamless ferritic alloy steel pipe used for high-temperature service. It contains 2.25–2.75% chromium and 0.87–1.13% molybdenum, which enhance its resistance to oxidation, corrosion, and creep. P22 is widely used in power plants, refineries, and petrochemical industries where elevated temperature and pressure resistance is critical.

ASTM A335 P22 is a low-alloy steel composed mainly of carbon, chromium (2.25–2.75%), molybdenum (0.87–1.13%), manganese, silicon, and trace elements like phosphorus and sulfur. Some versions may include vanadium to improve creep strength. Chromium improves oxidation resistance, while molybdenum increases strength at high temperatures.

ASTM A335 P22 has high tensile strength (minimum 415 MPa), yield strength (minimum 205 MPa), and good hardness. It also offers excellent creep resistance. Pipes are usually delivered in normalized and tempered condition, making them suitable for bending, welding, and fabrication.

ASTM A335 P22 pipes must undergo various mechanical and nondestructive tests, including hydrostatic testing, transverse/longitudinal tension tests, flattening tests, hardness or bend tests, and NDT (non-destructive testing) to ensure compliance with the specification.

ASTM A335 P22 pipes are widely used in:
  • Power generation (boilers, superheaters, reheaters)
