Mechanically Lined Pipe (mlp)
Stainless lined carbon steel pipe (mechanically lined pipe / mlp) combines corrosion-resistant stainless steel inner liner with strong carbon steel outer pipe.
Mechanically Lined Pipe (mlp)
Stainless lined carbon steel pipe (mechanically lined pipe / mlp) combines corrosion-resistant stainless steel inner liner with strong carbon steel outer pipe.
Stainless lined carbon steel pipe (also called mechanically lined pipe or MLP) consists of a carbon steel outer pipe (host/carrier) with a thin stainless steel liner inserted and hydraulically or mechanically expanded to create a tight interference fit. The stainless liner protects against internal corrosion, while the carbon steel provides high strength and pressure containment.
Unlike metallurgically clad pipe (atomic bond), the liner is mechanically held in place – offering lower cost and easier production for large diameters and long lengths.
Primary standard: API 5LD (Specification for CRA Clad or Lined Steel Pipe – lined section)
| Feature | Stainless Lined (Mechanical) | CRA-Clad (Metallurgical) |
|---|---|---|
| Bonding | Mechanical expansion | Atomic diffusion |
| Cost | Lower | Higher |
| Bond Reliability | Good (moderate risk in cycles) | Excellent |
| Best For | Onshore, moderate corrosion | Offshore, high-pressure/sour |

These mechanical properties make Stainless Lined Carbon Steel Pipe suitable for applications requiring high strength and corrosion resistance, such as architectural structures, marine environments, and chemical processing.
In order to solve the cumbersome and difficult to remember stainless steel grades, improve the practicability of the brand representation, and the contrast with the international standard grades, China has formulated the "Universal Code System for Steel and Alloy Grades", such as 06Cr19Ni10, corresponding to 304. Different grades of stainless steel have different ingredients, but they all have a national standard. The standards of each country are also different.
